Project Review: Hotel Grande Bretagne

January 2, 2025

Marriott’s luxury 5-star Hotel Grande Bretagne provides unrivaled views of the renowned Acropolis, royal Syntagma Square and the Parliament, beautiful Lycabettus Hill, and the old Olympic Stadium, acting as a landmark of central Athens.

Since 1874, the famous hotel has been located in the center of Athens and has played a key role in the city’s history. When the Olympic Games were reintroduced for the first time in 1896, the Hotel Grande Bretagne served as the official host for foreign delegations, diplomats, politicians, political personalities, and kings.

The high-end interior design and architecture firm Goddard Littlefair’s touch is visible on this project, who we also worked with on the Four Seasons Sultanahmet refurbishment in Istanbul.

Parla worked with the project’s designers and client, Lampsa-Marriott Holding, to craft bespoke furniture for both the outdoors and the interior of the 320-room hotel’s GB Roof Garden.

The unsurprisingly Mediterranean-inspired restaurant and bar overlooks the Athens skyline, giving visitors a clear glimpse of the Acropolis from every corner on the 8th floor.

Also mentioned in the Michelin Guide, GB Roof Garden’s classical and elegant ambiance was also made possible with the excellence of woodwork applied to the dining chairs and stools, plus the marble detailing of the dining tables.

“The Roof Garden brings elegance and quiet sophistication into a city still engulfed in economic turmoil. Almost another gift from the gods you might say” wrote Andy Mossack wrote on Trip Reporter, and we agree. Neighboring Parla’s home country Turkey, Greece’s mythological and deeply historical capital is always a charming place to be and Hotel Grand Bretagne is a celebration of the layers of the very interesting history of Greece.

We are most definitely proud of how the portrayal of our vision in craft has come alive and really happy about our collaboration in furnishing the delightful rooftop that is a place to salute Athens’ rich history and its mystical landmarks.

We look forward to working with our Greek neighbours on many more future projects!
