Workspitality: A New Reality

January 2, 2025

In the post-pandemic world, the integration of work and hospitality is reshaping our workplaces, cafes, restaurants, and hotels. Workspitality refers to the concept of designing workspaces with hospitality-inspired elements to create environments that are more inviting, comfortable, and productive. The workspitality sector has experienced 20% growth in Europe over the past few years, with the European market projected to reach €25 billion by 2025. Major cities like London, Berlin, Amsterdam, and Barcelona have become hotspots due to their vibrant startup scenes, diverse cultures, and attractive work environments. These workspitality spaces primarily cater to freelancers, digital nomads, remote workers, entrepreneurs, and corporate teams.

So how do these developments affect office and hotel interiors?

Drawing inspiration from the hospitality industry, modern workspaces are now being designed to provide a warm, inviting atmosphere that cultivates a sense of belonging and community, surpassing the sterile, impersonal environments of traditional cubicles. In other words, the workplace is evolving from a necessity to a desirable destination.

What has our experience of Workspitality been in Hotels?

As a company well-versed in hospitality, we’ve observed changes in hotel interiors as well. With more people working remotely, the line between travel and work is blurring, plus the trend of working from hotels has significantly increased over the last five years. During the covid pandemic as homes started to double as schools, gyms, and restaurants, people struggled to stay motivated. Consequently, working from hotels or taking working vacations gained popularity. The growing demand is pushing hotels to redesign their interiors for work efficiency and productivity. Some hotels now offer private or semi-private areas to minimize distractions and enhance focus as well as multiple areas being designed for different work-related uses.

We are also observing that people who work remotely are seeking comfort in hotels transformed into temporary offices. Hotels are on board with delivering to this need. For example the international hotel chain Accor has collaborated with Wojo, a pioneer in “workspitality”. Wojo offers coworking, office, and meeting spaces in many Accor Hotels, available in 190 European cities. And one of our repeat clients, The Locke Hotels, designs all its public areas as live-work spaces.

It has been interesting and inspiring to watch these developments in the design of spaces related to work, and also exciting for us to be able to take part in the innovations with pieces we supply, not only in hospitality environments but also in office environments. In addition to our hospitality projects we are increasingly getting involved in creating more comfort in office schemes with our Parla Collection pieces that are designed for hospitality type comfort, and are great crossover pieces for office interiors. Roll on many more projects that we can sprinkle our furniture in to!
